I don’t remember when I first started feeling anxiety symptoms. But I will never forget the pain of having to say “no” to so many opportunities because of them.

At some point avoiding discomfort and embarrassment turned into a lifestyle for me.

I got used to saying “no” to not only big possibilities like traveling to other countries for work or taking part in conferences, but also the smallest things, like speaking my mind, doing things my way, or showing expertise in the field that I work in.

But even after avoiding any situation that I could avoid, there were still enough circumstances in my life that caused my heart to pound and my voice to shake.

Needless to say, this condition was making my life pretty uncomfortable.

So I’ve decided to finally do something about it.

For some reason I never considered therapy to be a potential cure for my anxiety. I could not believe that talking to someone and being vulnerable might help me beat the thing I’m most afraid of, which was pretty much the same thing.

But after hearing one of my friends praising her therapist I’ve decided to give it a try.
